And, not to forget the roadgeek connection in this photo, there’s an I-215 state-name shield, one of four or five that I have seen a photo of (a month ago, I hadn’t seen one single photo). I postulate that Utah began using neutered shields in the early or mid 1980s; by 2000, 95 percent of state-name shields were gone, and by the late 2000s, none remained.
This photo is from one of 145 boxes I’ve been perusing at the State Archives. Unfortunately, after the first twenty boxes the photos are all weird, undeveloped negatives, like this one. I had to go in and invert the colors in this photo, and it turned out better than I expected.
